A complete panic bar exit door package: a 20-gauge hollow metal door made without a lock bore, a 16-gauge steel frame, three self-closing spring hinges and a Tell 8300 aluminum push bar exit device. Built in our Brooklyn factory for exits, stairwells and back doors that must open with a push.

How to order

  1. Size — nominal door size (30" to 36" wide).
  2. Frame & Throat Depth — welded for masonry, knock-down for drywall.
  3. Swing — left or right hand.

Frame types & throat depths

  • Welded frame (masonry & block walls, set as the wall is built): 4 7/8" throat.
  • Knock-down frame (installs into a finished drywall opening): 3 3/4", 4 7/8" or 6 1/8" throat.

Throat depth = the overall wall thickness the frame wraps: 3 3/4" for 2-1/2" studs, 4 7/8" for 3-5/8" studs, 6 1/8" for thicker or double-layer walls (5/8" drywall each side).

Good to know

  • The push bar is exit only: there is no outside trim. Need outside key or lever access? Ask us to add exit trim.
  • For a labeled fire-rated opening, ask us for a fire-rated exit device.

Sizing & swing

Order by nominal door size. A 36" x 80" unit has an actual door of about 35-3/4" x 79-1/4" and an overall frame of about 40" x 82". To choose the swing, stand on the outside (the side the door swings away from): hinges on the right = Right Hand, hinges on the left = Left Hand. Need a reverse (out-swing) or a custom size?
