Handing

Left hand or right hand?

Hinges on left = Left Hand
Hinges on right = Right Hand

Stand outside the door, on the side you push from. If the hinges will be on your left, order Left Hand. If they'll be on your right, order Right Hand. Your frame and door must be the same hand. Not sure? Call us and we'll help you confirm before you order.

FAQ

Knock-down frame FAQ

Does a knock-down frame include the door or hardware?

No. These are sold as frames only. The door slab, hinges, lockset and any closer or exit device are sold separately. Pair it with a cylindrical prep slab or a mortise prep slab, add door hardware, or choose a complete KIN steel door unit.

What is a knock-down door frame?

A knock-down (KD) frame comes in three pieces — two jambs and a head — that ship flat and lock together on site. It slips over a finished drywall wall, which makes it the go-to frame for interior renovations and tenant fit-outs. For masonry walls or openings that need a one-piece frame set before the wall goes up, choose a welded frame.

Which jamb depth do I need?

Match the jamb depth to your finished wall thickness. 3-3/4" fits a 2-1/2" stud with one layer of 5/8" drywall per side. 4-7/8" fits a 3-5/8" stud with one layer per side. 6-1/8" fits a 3-5/8" stud with two layers per side. Measure the wall, not just the stud — call us if you're between sizes.

What size frame should I order?

Order the frame by the door size it holds. A 36" x 84" frame fits a 36" x 84" door. We offer 24" to 36" widths in 80", 84" and 96" heights, left or right hand.

Knock-down or welded frame — which is better?

Knock-down frames install after the drywall is up and are easier to ship and handle. Welded frames are one rigid piece set during wall construction and are typical for masonry and high-traffic openings. Both hold a standard steel door slab.
