Welded or knock-down?
Throat depth is the overall wall thickness the frame wraps. Pick the frame type, then the throat that matches your wall.
Welded frame
One rigid piece with welded corners, set as the wall goes up. The strongest option for masonry and concrete block electrical rooms in basements and building cores.
Masonry & block wallsThroat: 4 7/8"Knock-down frame
Ships in three pieces and wraps a finished drywall opening — ideal for retrofits and tenant fit-outs where the wall is already built. 3 3/4" fits 2-1/2" studs, 4 7/8" fits 3-5/8" studs (5/8" drywall each side), 6 1/8" fits thicker walls.
Drywall / stud wallsThroat: 3 3/4" · 4 7/8" · 6 1/8"Secure, fire-rated, made to last
Keeps the room locked
A storeroom-function lock is always locked from the outside — only a key gets in — while anyone inside can exit freely with the inside lever or knob.
90-minute fire rated
A fire-rated hollow metal door for electrical, meter and mechanical rooms where a rated opening is called for.
Stock & ready
Built from stock doors and frames in our New York factory, so electrical room units are ready fast — pick up or get job-site delivery.
How to pick the right swing
Stand on the outside of the electrical room (the corridor side).
Right hand: hinges on the right, door swings in, away from you.
Left hand: hinges on the left, door swings in, away from you.
Reverse (RHR / LHR): the door swings out, toward you — call us if you need a reverse swing.
Measuring: order by nominal door size. A 36" × 80" unit has an actual door of about 35-3/4" × 79-1/4" and an overall frame of about 40" × 82". Check your project drawings or local code for the required swing direction — or send us your rough opening and we'll confirm.

Electrical room door questions
What comes with an electrical room door unit?
Each unit includes a stock 20-gauge, 1-3/4" cylindrical-prep steel door (90-minute fire rated), a 16-gauge welded or knock-down steel frame, three 4-1/2" self-closing spring hinges, and a storeroom-function cylindrical knob or lever lock.
Which lock function is best for an electrical room?
Storeroom function. The outside lever or knob is always locked and only opens with a key, while the inside always allows free exit — so the room can't be left unlocked by accident.
Should I choose a lever or a knob lock?
Both are UL fire-rated cylindrical locks with a storeroom function. Knob locks are the lower-cost option ($707.23 unit total); lever locks ($748.63 unit total) are easier to operate and are often required where accessibility (ADA) applies.
Welded or knock-down frame — which do I need?
Choose welded for masonry or concrete block walls and new construction. Choose knock-down when the opening is in an existing drywall or stud wall.
What throat depths are available?
Welded frames come with a 4 7/8" throat. Knock-down frames come in 3 3/4", 4 7/8" or 6 1/8" throats. Measure the full wall thickness (studs plus drywall on both sides) and pick the matching throat. Need another depth? Call (718) 455-8442.
Is the door fire rated?
Yes. The hollow metal door carries a 90-minute fire rating, suitable for electrical, meter, mechanical and other rooms that call for a rated door.
Can you make custom sizes?
Yes. We fabricate steel doors and frames in our New York factory and can build electrical room units to non-standard sizes. Request a quote with your dimensions.
How do I get my order?
