Which exit device do I need — rim or vertical rod?
A rim exit device latches into a strike on the frame and is the standard choice for single doors. A surface vertical rod device latches at the top and bottom of the door, which is typical for pairs of doors that close without a center mullion. Not sure? Contact us with a photo of the opening.
Are these panic bars fire rated?
The 8300 Series rim device is UL listed and fire rated up to three hours. For fire-rated openings, the door, frame and all hardware must be rated for the assembly — call us to confirm the right device for your fire door.
What size door do they fit?
The 8300 rim device fits 28" to 36" wide doors from 1-3/8" to 2" thick. The 8400B vertical rod device is sized for 36" doors. Both are surface mounted and work on metal or wood doors.
Does a panic bar include the door or frame?
No. These are sold as exit devices only. The door, frame and hinges are sold separately. See our steel door slabs and steel door frames, or choose a complete KIN steel door unit.
Do exit devices come with a cylinder and keys?
The 8300 Series ships with a 6-pin solid brass cylinder in a Schlage C keyway, keyed different. Additional outside trim can be added — ask us for options.
