FAQ

Fire-rated steel door FAQ

What does a 90-minute fire rating mean?

The door is rated to hold back fire for up to 90 minutes as part of a rated opening. 90-minute doors are typically specified for stairwells, corridors and other openings in fire-rated walls — check the rating your code or architect calls for.

Is the whole opening fire rated if I buy just the door?

No. A fire-rated opening needs a rated door, frame, hinges and latching hardware together. These listings are door slabs only. Pair them with our steel door frames and UL-listed fire-rated locksets.

Cylindrical or mortise prep — which do I need?

Cylindrical prep has a round bore for a knob or lever lockset. Mortise prep has a pocket in the lock edge for a box-style mortise lock, common on apartment entry doors. Match your existing lock, or call us and we'll help.

What size fire door should I order?

Order by the nominal opening size, for example 36" x 84". The door itself is slightly smaller to leave clearance inside the frame. We list widths from 24" to 44" and heights from 72" to 96".

How do I get my door?

Pick up at our Brooklyn or Brentwood, NY warehouse, choose NYC delivery, or ship LTL freight nationwide.

Can you make a custom-size fire door or install it?
