What comes in the apartment steel door kit?
A complete, ready-to-install door system: a fire-rated hollow metal door, a knock-down drywall or masonry frame, self-closing hinges, a mortise lockset with keys, and the strike and hardware prep for installation.
Why a mortise lockset for apartment doors?
A mortise lock sits in a pocket cut into the lock edge of the door. It's the standard lock style for apartment entry doors in many NYC multifamily buildings. If your building uses knob or lever locks instead, see our cylindrical lockset door units.
Are the doors fire rated?
Yes. The doors are UL-labeled and fire rated up to 90 minutes. For a fire-rated opening, the frame, hinges and lockset must also be rated for the assembly.
Drywall or masonry frame — which do I need?
Choose a knock-down drywall frame for sheetrock walls and a masonry frame for block or brick walls. Not sure? Send us a photo of the opening and we'll confirm.
Can I get a custom size?
Yes. Most standard rough openings fit, and we build custom sizes in our New York facility. Send us your measurements for a quote.
